BILIS, the Bard.
L

ike all cities, her city was ruled by something, someone. The King heralded prosperity, but mostly for himself, his gold favoured no one else, his food fed only the palace. However, under his rule, her world knew order - she could teach, she could write, she could serve and be provided for in return. Bilis didn't complain, everything in life came at a price, she knew. One day the price came for her, it needed to be paid. A great war had swept over the country, wild women warriors spreading panic and terror under the names freedom and justice, they did it to end all kings. Bilis' King, too, was ended - and with him the whole city, they burnt it to the ground. Having lost everything, Bilis decided that if one couldn't be safe from the warriors, one could be safe with them, so she saddled her own horse and followed them, getting accepted into their group without question. As they said, they had needed a bard for a while.

RUNAWAY - AURORA
i was listenin' to the ocean
i saw a face in the sand
but when i picked it up
then it vanished away from my hands, down
THE FRUITS - PARIS PALOMA
"you're so pure," he says
does he know, i'm forsaken
the original sinner
but soon you'll know
BY THE RIVERS DARK - LENA MÅNDOTTER
though i take my song
from a withered limb
both song and tree
they sing for him
QUEENDOM - AURORA
the underdogs are my lions
the silent ones are my choir
the women will be my soldiers
i will be your warrior, i will be your lamb
SPECTRUM - FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
say my name
as every color illuminates
we are shining
and we will never be afraid again
LABOUR - PARIS PALOMA
who tends the orchards
who fixes up the gables
emotional torture
from the head of your high table

Name Bilis Age ~ 35 Born Autumn
Sexuality Bi Occupation Poet, bard PB Rachel Weisz
ABOUT, part 1.
There was a time before. Before Bilis travelled with the band of soldiers of whom no one has kept their name, they have discarded them with normal life, they carry monikers like armour, the Warrior, the Amazon, the Spear, the Shield, the Blade - and they call Bilis "the Bard", though she hasn't adopted it for herself, in her own ears her name resounds. It it all that she has left of the home which the soldiers have otherwise burned to the ground.

They did it for a cause, but the cause isn't hers. The King of her city wasn't fair, but neither is life and she didn't loathe the order he created, she didn't loathe the hierarchies or the systems he put in place. Within those, she was able to teach her students in metrics and music, she was able to write. She was able to nurture a life of her own.

However, the Warrior's band had decided it was an unjust king, Bilis', and they came to tear down his hierarchies, his systems and his throne. If that meant burning her whole home to the ground, they would do it, war came at a prize. They had left their families, they didn't see the value of letting others keep theirs.

In the rubble of her destroyed home, Bilis had watched the soldiers gather, mount their horses, prepare to leave her with the ruins of the past but no future ushered in instead, and she saddled her own horse, she mounted it, too, and she followed them on their continued journey. Because however much she loathed what they had done, Bilis thought, the only ones who could protect her against that kind of destruction were the doers of it.

Since then, she has sung their songs, sung their praise, while a bitter resentment gnaws at her heart. You took everything from me and you will do it again, for there is only one victory in this world, and it doesn't belong to the defeated.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS.
Visual. Short, slender woman, petite, dark, curly hair, slightly sharp-lined face, expressive, hardened.
Fashion. Tunics and trousers, various styles of togas and chitons.
Demeanor. Focused, observant, clever, determined, poetic, quiet, afraid.
Aural. Speaks her own dialect as well as the common dialect of her country.

ABOUT, part 2.
This story takes place in an unnamed fantasy country reminiscent of Ancient Greece or similar ancient nations. It is rarely mentioned by name in "canon", but for the ease of RP'ing, we can call it, Middleland, when needed.

Middleland is a large nation situated on the peninsula of the continent it's part of. It is surrounded by ocean on two out of three sides, a large mountain range to the northeast separating it from its nearest neighbour. It is made up of independent city states that exist with own government and various political stances on topics ranging from economy to labour forces to human rights. Recently, a small army of women warriors have waged war on various cities throughout Middleland in an effort to avoid dictatorships and injustice.
